Prohibited firearms include automatics and converted automatics, sawn-off rifles and shotguns below the prescribed lengths, handguns with a barrel of 105 mm or less or chambered in .25 or .32, and the long list of models and variants named in prohibition orders — most recently the May 2020, December 2024 and March 2025 orders. Acquisition by individuals is effectively closed, and existing owners hold their firearms under grandfathering provisions with tight limits on use and transport.

Checking this list matters most when a firearm resembles something that has been named. Prohibition orders capture variants, and a model line can be split across classes. If the entry you are looking at is prohibited, treat any listing that claims otherwise as an error and verify with the Canadian Firearms Program before going near a transfer.
