Rifle Scopes for sale in Canada
1049 rifle scopes listings currently for sale across Canada, posted by GunEx members and gathered from public Canadian classifieds. Updated daily.
Rifle scopes are the one accessory where buying used is usually the right call. Glass does not wear out the way a barrel does, most of the serious brands carry a transferable lifetime warranty, and a scope that cost $1,200 new routinely trades at half that in unmarked condition. A great deal of the good glass in Canada has had two or three owners.
Listings split roughly three ways. Hunting scopes in the 3-9x40 and 4-12x44 range are the volume, and the cheapest way to get a capable optic onto a deer rifle. Precision scopes with exposed turrets, first focal plane reticles and a 5-25x class magnification range are the expensive end and hold value best. Rimfire and shotgun scopes with close parallax settings are the specialist corner.
The single thing worth checking before anything else is whether the mount is included. Rings and a base for a 30 mm or 34 mm tube can add $150 or more to the real cost of a scope, and a listing that includes them is often the better buy even at a higher ask.

What to check before you buy
Establish the focal plane
A first focal plane reticle scales with magnification, so holdovers are correct at any power — that is what you want for ranging and dialling. A second focal plane reticle stays the same size and is only accurate at one magnification, usually maximum. Neither is better in the abstract, but buying the wrong one for how you shoot is the most common regret.
Check the tube diameter against your rings
1 inch, 30 mm and 34 mm tubes all need their own rings. A scope with no mount at a bargain price stops being a bargain once you price 34 mm rings. Ask for the tube diameter explicitly if the listing does not state it.
Look through it before you pay
Point it at something with fine detail at distance and run the magnification and the parallax through their full travel. Look for internal dust, fogging between the lenses, and a reticle that shifts or fails to return when you dial the turrets back to zero. Those are the faults that do not show in photographs.
Ask whether the warranty transfers
Vortex, Leupold, Athlon and several others honour their warranty regardless of who owns the scope, which is a real part of the value of a used optic and one reason those brands resell well. Others require original proof of purchase. It is worth a question before you settle on a price.
Weigh ring marks against price, not against condition
Light ring marks on the tube are cosmetic and extremely common on a scope that has actually been used. They should move the price a little and should not put you off an otherwise sound optic. Dents in the tube, a damaged objective bell or a sticky turret are different problems.
Common questions
Do you need a PAL to buy a rifle scope in Canada?
No. A scope is not a firearm and is not a regulated component, so no licence is required to buy, own or ship one. That is why optics are one of the easiest categories on GunEx to buy from another province. Note that this does not extend to everything filed under optics: some night vision and thermal devices are subject to separate import and export controls.
How much should you pay for a used rifle scope?
Recent-model scopes from the major brands in unmarked condition typically trade around 60 to 75 per cent of current retail, with complete mounts and the original box pushing toward the top of that. Discontinued models and scopes without a transferable warranty sit lower. The listings on this page show what Canadian sellers are asking today, which is the more useful number than any rule of thumb.
What magnification do you need for hunting in Canada?
For most Canadian big game hunting, a 3-9x40 or 4-12x44 covers the realistic range of shots and is what the majority of the used listings here are. Higher magnification narrows the field of view and makes a moving animal harder to find in the glass. Mountain and open-country shooting is the case for more magnification; bush hunting is the case for less.
Can a rifle scope be shipped within Canada?
Yes. Ordinary rifle scopes ship by any regular carrier with no licence check, which makes the national listings on this page as useful as the local ones. Ask the seller to ship it in the original box or with the caps on and the tube properly padded — the objective bell is what gets damaged in transit.
