Rifles for sale in Canada

5463 rifles listings currently for sale across Canada, posted by GunEx members and gathered from public Canadian classifieds. Updated daily.

Rifles are the largest category on GunEx and the one with the widest price spread. Surplus rifles, SKS and Lee-Enfield in particular, sit at the affordable end and trade constantly. Bolt-action hunting rifles in .308, .30-06, 6.5 Creedmoor and .270 make up the bulk of the middle. Precision and modern sporting rifles occupy the top.

Country of origin and configuration move surplus prices more than condition does. A Russian Tula SKS sells for a clear premium over a Chinese Norinco in the same shape, and a matching-numbers Lee-Enfield No.4 is worth more than a sporterized one. For hunting rifles the reverse is true: chambering and glass matter more than provenance.

New to these? Read the sks buying guide tell Russian, Norinco, Yugo and Romanian rifles apart, and price them against current Canadian listings.

Rifles by province

What to check before you buy

Verify the classification before you commit

Non-restricted, restricted and prohibited each carry different transport and transfer rules, and the lists have changed several times since 2020. Check the exact make and model against the RCMP Firearms Reference Table rather than trusting a listing title.

Look at the bore, not the finish

External wear is cosmetic on a surplus rifle and normal on a hunting rifle that has been used. A dark, pitted or shot-out bore is what actually costs money to fix.

Ask about matching numbers on surplus

Most surplus rifles were arsenal refurbished, so mismatched serials are common and not a defect. They do move the price, so it is worth asking before you agree on one.

Factor in the optic

A rifle listed with a mounted scope is often the better buy once you price rings, bases and a comparable optic separately.

Common questions

Is the SKS still legal in Canada?

Yes. The SKS is non-restricted and does not appear on the May 2020, December 2024 or March 2025 prohibition orders, so a valid non-restricted PAL is all that is required to buy one. The federal government has said it is reviewing the classification regime and will consult on the SKS specifically, but no ban has been enacted. Verify the current status before any transfer.

How much does an SKS cost in Canada?

Country of origin drives the price. Romanian and shooter-grade Chinese rifles sit at the bottom, standard Norinco and Yugoslav M59/66 rifles occupy the middle, and Russian Tula or Izhevsk rifles sit well above the rest, with unissued examples higher again. The rifle listings on this page show what Canadian sellers are asking today.

What do you need to buy a rifle in Canada?

A valid Possession and Acquisition Licence for the class of firearm involved. Non-restricted rifles need a non-restricted PAL, and both parties are responsible for verifying the licence before the firearm changes hands. Restricted rifles additionally require registration and an authorization to transport for most movement.

Can I buy a rifle from another province?

Yes. Non-restricted rifles can be shipped between provinces by a carrier that accepts firearms once the seller has verified the buyer's licence. Many sellers prefer an in-person handoff, which is why the province and city pages below are usually the fastest way to find something local.
